  • To play the klondike game, a standard deck of cards is used. The 52 cards are used but the jokers from the card deck are excluded. After shuffling the cards, seven cards are laid from left to right.
     
  • The placement or layout of these seven cards on the table is known as the 'tableau'. Starting from the left to right, there is one card extra as you move towards the right.

1.  The first pile 1 will remain as it is.

2.  There will be one extra card on the second pile, that is, 2.

3.  Two cards on the third pile, that is, 3.

4.  Three extra cards on the fourth pile, that is, 4.

5.  Four extra cards on the fifth pile, that is, 5.

6.  Five cards on the sixth pile, that is, 6.

7.  Six extra cards on the seventh pile, that is, 7.

The first and left-most pile has only one upturned card. The second pile has two cards, one downturned and one upturned. The third pile has three cards, two downturned, one upturned, and so on until the seventh pile has seven cards six downturned, one upturned. The highest card is in each pile is turned face up.   • The tableau piles can be built down by alternate colors, and the four foundations are built up by suit from Ace which are low in this game to the King.
  • Any face-up card in a partial or complete tableau pile can be moved as a unit to another tableau pile based on its highest card.
     
  • A King can be placed in any empty heap or pile of cards.
     
  • The goal of the game is to build four stacks of cards of the same suit, beginning with Ace and ending with King, on one of the four foundations, at which point the player has won.

The rest of the deck can be dealt from stock to waste in a variety of ways, including the ones listed below:

  • Turning three cards to the waste at once, with no limit on how many times you may go through the deck.
     
  • With three passes through the deck, three cards are turned to waste at once.
     
  • With three passes through the deck, one card at a time is turned to waste.
     
  • Turning one card to the waste a time, with only one pass through the deck, and if possible, playing it.
     
  • Turning one card to the waste at a time, with no limit on how many times you may go through the deck.
     
  • If a player is unable to make meaningful moves, they will lose the game.

How Does Scoring Work in Klondike Solitaire?

  • 10 points are awarded for moving cards directly from the Waste stack to a Foundation.
     
  • If the card is first moved to a Tableau, then to a Foundation, an additional 5 points are awarded, bringing the total to 15.
     
  • As a result, no cards should be moved immediately from the Waste to the Foundation to achieve the highest possible score.
     
  • If the Timed game option is selected in Windows Solitaire, time might also be a factor.
  • Two points are deducted for every ten seconds of play.
     
  • If the game takes at least 30 seconds, bonus points are calculated using the formula 20,000/ (seconds to finish) *35.
     
  • There are no bonus points provided if the game is completed in less than 30 seconds.
